How to Use Dam Liner Tape
1: Identify the Leak- Locate the hole, puncture or damaged section. Mark the affected area so that it is easy to identify during repair.
If the dam is full, lower the water level below the damaged section. For damage at the bottom of the reservoir, the water may need to be drained sufficiently to expose the repair area.
2: Clean the Liner- Remove mud, algae, dust, oil, plant material and other dirt around the damaged area. The surface should be clean and dry before applying the tape. Local repair guidance also recommends cleaning the area thoroughly because dirt can interfere with adhesion.
3: Prepare the Damaged Area- If the liner has loose or ragged edges around the puncture, carefully trim them where appropriate. For a small puncture, ensure the tape will cover the entire damaged section with sufficient margin around it.
4: Cut the Tape- Cut a piece of dam liner tape large enough to cover the damaged area. Avoid making the patch exactly the same size as the hole. The tape should extend beyond the damaged section so that it bonds to undamaged liner around the puncture.
For larger repairs, a compatible liner patch may be used underneath or together with the adhesive system, depending on the product instructions.
5: Apply the Tape- Peel away the protective backing carefully without touching the adhesive surface unnecessarily. Place the tape over the damaged section and press it firmly onto the liner.
Start from one side and work across the patch to reduce the possibility of trapped air bubbles.
6: Press the Repair Firmly- Use your hand or a suitable roller to apply firm, even pressure across the entire tape surface.
Pay particular attention to the edges because poor edge adhesion can allow water to get underneath the repair.
7: Allow the Repair to Set- Do not immediately refill the reservoir unless the product instructions specifically allow immediate immersion.
