Description
Dam Liner Tape– Repair and Seal Dam Liners
Dam liner tape is a strong adhesive repair tape designed to seal and cover small damaged areas on compatible pond and geomembrane liners. It creates a waterproof barrier over the affected section and is particularly useful for minor repairs where a complete liner replacement is unnecessary.
Some repair tapes are made with waterproof adhesive systems and flexible backing materials designed for outdoor use. Commercial liner repair tapes are available in different widths, lengths and thicknesses depending on the manufacturer and application.
Dam Liner Tape Uses
Dam liner tape is mainly used for minor repairs and sealing applications. Common uses include:
- Repairing tiny holes in dam liners
- Sealing small punctures
- Covering minor cuts
- Reinforcing small damaged areas
- Repairing pond liners
- Sealing compatible geomembrane surfaces
- Emergency leak control
- Fish pond liner maintenance
- Irrigation water reservoir maintenance
Dam Liner Tape Specifications
The exact specifications depend on the particular tape supplied. A typical product specification can be presented as follows:
| Specification | Typical Details |
| Main application | Repairing small holes, punctures and minor liner damage |
| Colour | Usually black or grey |
| Width | Common sizes include approximately 100 mm / 4 inches |
| Roll length | Commonly 10 metres; other lengths may be available |
| Thickness | Varies according to manufacturer and tape type |
| Adhesive | Waterproof pressure-sensitive or rubber-based adhesive, depending on product |
| Water resistance | Designed for waterproof sealing |
| Outdoor use | Suitable for exposed liner repair when the product is rated for outdoor/UV use |
| Application | Peel, position and firmly press onto a clean surface |
| Suitable use | Minor dam and pond liner repairs |
Dam Liner Tape Thickness
A thicker repair tape can provide additional physical durability, but the tape must still bond properly to the liner surface.
For this reason, when purchasing dam liner tape confirm the actual tape thickness, width, roll length and adhesive specification of the available product.
How to Use Dam Liner Tape
1: Identify the Leak- Locate the hole, puncture or damaged section. Mark the affected area so that it is easy to identify during repair.
If the dam is full, lower the water level below the damaged section. For damage at the bottom of the reservoir, the water may need to be drained sufficiently to expose the repair area.
2: Clean the Liner- Remove mud, algae, dust, oil, plant material and other dirt around the damaged area. The surface should be clean and dry before applying the tape. Local repair guidance also recommends cleaning the area thoroughly because dirt can interfere with adhesion.
3: Prepare the Damaged Area- If the liner has loose or ragged edges around the puncture, carefully trim them where appropriate. For a small puncture, ensure the tape will cover the entire damaged section with sufficient margin around it.
4: Cut the Tape- Cut a piece of dam liner tape large enough to cover the damaged area. Avoid making the patch exactly the same size as the hole. The tape should extend beyond the damaged section so that it bonds to undamaged liner around the puncture.
For larger repairs, a compatible liner patch may be used underneath or together with the adhesive system, depending on the product instructions.
5: Apply the Tape- Peel away the protective backing carefully without touching the adhesive surface unnecessarily. Place the tape over the damaged section and press it firmly onto the liner.
Start from one side and work across the patch to reduce the possibility of trapped air bubbles.
6: Press the Repair Firmly- Use your hand or a suitable roller to apply firm, even pressure across the entire tape surface.
Pay particular attention to the edges because poor edge adhesion can allow water to get underneath the repair.
7: Allow the Repair to Set- Do not immediately refill the reservoir unless the product instructions specifically allow immediate immersion.
Dam Liner Tape vs Dam Liner Welding
Dam liner tape is convenient for small repairs because it is easy to apply and does not require specialised welding equipment. It is useful for minor punctures and emergency repairs.
Dam liner welding, on the other hand, uses heat or extrusion techniques to fuse compatible liner materials. It is normally preferred for joining liner sheets and for repairs where higher structural integrity is required. Professional geomembrane repair guidance recommends compatible geomembrane patches and welded repairs for substantial defects
Dam Liner Tape Price in Kenya
The price of dam liner tape in Kenya depends on the width, roll length, adhesive technology, thickness, brand and supplier. It also goes for kshs 450 per meter.
| Dam liner tape size | Indicative Kenya price | Application |
| 10 cm × 10 m | Kshs 4,000 | Small punctures and minor repairs |
| 4″ × 10 m | Kshs 6,500 | Dam and pond liner repairs |
| Larger rolls | Price varies | Larger repair and maintenance work |
Why Use Dam Liner Tape from Eunidrip Irrigation Systems?
Eunidrip Irrigation Systems supplies irrigation and water-management products for Kenyan farmers and agricultural projects. Dam liner repair tape is a useful addition to a water-storage maintenance kit because small liner damage can be addressed before it results in significant water loss.
Keeping repair tape available is particularly useful for farmers managing irrigation dams, fish ponds and other lined reservoirs.
